Cairngorms winter walking weekends at the Old bridge Inn, Aviemore


We are delighted to offer a package of winter walking skills and accommodation new for this winter 2014/15 with our friends at the Old Bridge Inn, Aviemore, Scotland.

Come try your first steps on crampon’s or discover new heights with local Winter Mountain leader Kevin Maule, spend the evenings by the fire at the old bridge inn then retire next door to the Aviemore bunkhouse. 

For £150 we offer 

  • Two nights bunk room accommodation reserved only for course participants on the Friday and Saturday evening in the Aviemore bunk house, 
  • Friday evening welcome drinks in the Old Bridge inn 
  • Two days guided winter walking and skills in the Cairngorm and Monalaith mountains. All for £150 per person.

The  winter walking guiding will consist of 

  • Friday night meeting and crampon fitting 
  • 0830 start from OBI 
  • The best route for the day considering weather, snow conditions and group 
  • Guiding on the hill between 9am and 4:30pm Saturday and Sunday.
  • Crampon and axe use 
  • Route choice, navigation, snow conditions, mountain safety
  • Crampon, ice axe and winter boot hire is available.

Transport is not included however if you do arrive by public transport we can arrange a lift with the guide. If you would like to arrive by overnight Sleeper train it arrives from London at 8am on the Saturday. We would be happy to collect you at the station. You will have missed the Friday evening meeting however you can be briefed and have your equipment checked in the morning.

Places can reserved with £75 deposit, balance must be paid 4 weeks before. Once booked we will send out joining instructions including a list of what to bring, participants must be physical fit for 5 hrs walking in potentially difficult winter conditions each day. If you have any worries or medical conditions you wish to discuss please do get in contact with Kevin, this will be treated as confidential.

Cancellation: if you cancel more than 30 days before the course you will receive a 90% refund, up to 14 days before 50% refund and 7 days before 10% refund, it is strongly recommend that participants have insurance that covers you for missing a course due to unforseen circumstances such as break down and train problems. 
If we cancel you will receive 100% refund, this only likely in the event of no snow and we will always try to accommodate you on another one of our courses.

Participants should are responsible for their own travel arrangements to the Aviemore bunkhouse/ Old Bridge Inn however feel free to call for advice.
